About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Power Systems Technician to join our growing Industrial Power Services team in Mt. Wellington. In this full-time position, you will play a crucial role in driving the performance of New Zealand’s industrial power systems. Your focus will be on delivering high-voltage testing, commissioning, and maintenance across vital industrial and infrastructure sites, including manufacturing plants, substations, and energy facilities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Testing and maintaining high-voltage equipment such as transformers, protection relays, instrument transformers, and HV cables up to 33kV
- Commissioning and servicing power system communication and control equipment
- Performing insulating oil analysis and electrical breakdown testing
- Leading or assisting in system commissioning activities
- Jointing and terminating specialist communications cables
- Implementing and removing safety measures in electricity supply environments
- Participating in response work and scheduled maintenance
- Adhering to Omexom and client safety procedures while fostering a strong safety-first culture
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or power systems (polytechnic diploma or equivalent)
- Experience working in substations, switchyards, or industrial high-voltage environments
- Sound technical knowledge of electrical protection systems
- Proficiency in using high-voltage test equipment and interpreting test results
- A proactive approach to safety, risk management, and continuous improvement
- The willingness to travel for regional project work
