About the Company Ara Institute of Canterbury, a division of Te Pūkenga, is a vibrant and forward-thinking tertiary institution that provides world-class education throughout the Canterbury and Waitaki regions. Our dedicated employees, innovative business partners, and supportive community collaborators are committed to fostering learner success. We prioritize the delivery of services that meet the needs of Māori learners and their families, as well as the aspirations of iwi and Māori communities within our catchment area. To fulfill this commitment, we recognize the importance of having a culturally competent and confident workforce across all levels of our organization. About the Role We are looking for an experienced automotive professional to join our well-established team at Ara Automotive. In this permanent, full-time position, you will have the opportunity to work with learners of all ages, from school students exploring vocational options to apprentices and qualified tradespeople seeking to enhance their skills. Our diverse range of delivery sites across the Canterbury region allows us to reach a wide audience. Your primary responsibility will be to teach fundamental automotive trade skills to groups of learners who are just starting their journey toward an automotive apprenticeship or career. You will deliver this learning in our well-equipped facilities, utilizing excellent educational practices to inspire and engage your students. Requirements To be successful in this role, you should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the automotive industry, with a preference for those possessing skills in automotive electrical systems, including hybrid and fully electric vehicles, as well as experience with common rail diesel and late model technologies. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate vision, innovation, and a strong commitment to facilitating both their own and others' learning. You should be capable of supporting students in achieving their learning outcomes and able to develop and implement flexible teaching methods, including the use of learning technologies. Strong time management skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively administer and coordinate activities while meeting deadlines. Experience with assessment and feedback processes is beneficial, and teaching experience is preferred if you are applying for a senior academic position. Digital literacy, particularly proficiency in using computers and Microsoft Office products, is required. Finally, effective communication skills are essential for engaging with a diverse range of individuals at all levels within and outside of our organization. Benefits Joining our team offers you the chance to turn your automotive skills into a rewarding career that inspires the next generation. You will work collaboratively within a respected team at a progressive educational institution, and you will have the opportunity to pass on your knowledge and experience to aspiring automotive professionals.
