About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated Kiwi Keeper to join our exceptional team at the National Kiwi Hatchery located in Rotorua. This role is integral to our mission of kiwi conservation, and as a Kiwi Keeper, you will be at the forefront of efforts to protect and nurture these iconic birds.
The National Kiwi Hatchery is the largest and most successful kiwi hatchery globally, having hatched over 2,500 kiwi chicks since its inception in 1995, with an impressive hatch success rate of 95%. In addition to our conservation efforts, we also serve as a hub for scientific research and public education, welcoming visitors to learn about our work and support kiwi conservation.
What You Will Do
In your role as a Kiwi Keeper, you will be responsible for:
- Caring for kiwi eggs and chicks
- Supporting avian health and welfare
- Contributing to essential conservation research
- Engaging with visitors and sharing the story of kiwi conservation
About You
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have experience in avian care, wildlife conservation, or animal husbandry
- Thrive in a collaborative, purpose-driven team environment
- Remain calm under pressure and can adapt to unexpected situations
- Are flexible and willing to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
- Share our passion for protecting Aotearoa's natural heritage
