About the Role
We are seeking physically fit and reliable Hide & Skin Processing Machine Operators to become integral members of our production team at our Washdyke facility. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for operating machinery and performing various manual tasks related to hide and skin processing. You will work closely with a dedicated team in a dynamic industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor hide-processing machinery.
- Hook up hides, flesh, trim, grade, salt, and pack hides as part of the production process.
- Start, monitor, and adjust machines to ensure optimal operation.
- Load and unload hides into machinery and drums.
- Safely handle chemicals and tanning solutions.
- Maintain quality standards and adhere to established production procedures.
- Complete required paperwork and product data records accurately.
- Keep work areas and equipment clean and safe.
- Follow standard operating procedures, maintain quality, and report any faults.
- Participate in training sessions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Experience in a production or manufacturing environment handling animal hides and skins is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience operating processing machinery in a production or manufacturing setting.
- Knife handling skills are preferred.
- Physical fitness is essential, with the ability to lift 20–30 kg repeatedly.
- A proactive approach to health and safety practices and a commitment to training is crucial.
- Proven training records in a production and manufacturing environment would be an advantage, such as chemical handling, confined spaces, lockout procedures, and respirator use.
- Good health and safety awareness and consistent use of personal protective equipment is required.
- A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills are essential.
- A forklift license and operating experience would be advantageous (OSH certificate and F endorsement).
- Candidates must be able to pass drug screening.
- Flexibility to commit to variable shift patterns, including day shifts, night shifts, and weekends, with shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours.
- Reliable transport is necessary.
- Ministry of Justice checks will be completed for all applicants.
