About the Role
We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Geriatrician to join our dedicated teams of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals. This role primarily involves caring for older individuals with complex health and rehabilitation needs.
As a senior medical officer, you will be responsible for:
- Providing consultant services to patients requiring specialist care
- Interacting daily with other departments to ensure comprehensive patient care
- Mentoring junior medical staff attached to our service
- Working across various settings including inpatient, outpatient, intermediate care, and community care
- Covering for colleagues during their absence

About the Team/Service/Location
Our Older People's Health Rehabilitation Service (OPHRS) is co-managed with Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). The MHSOP team provides advice, assessment, treatment, care, and support for individuals over the age of 65 in Taranaki who face significant mental health challenges.
Taranaki Base Hospital, situated in New Plymouth, is the largest healthcare facility in the region and serves as a hub for various medical and surgical services. Managed by Health New Zealand | Taranaki, the hospital offers emergency, maternity, mental health, oncology, and specialist outpatient care. It also functions as a teaching hospital, supporting the training and development of future healthcare professionals.
Complementing Taranaki Base Hospital, Hawera Hospital provides inpatient care, maternity services, a 24-hour emergency department, and various outpatient, community, and specialist services for South Taranaki. Together, these facilities are dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and addressing the growing healthcare needs of the Taranaki region.
