About the Role
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a skilled Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Clinician to join our Rural North (Hauraki) Mental Health and Addictions Service. This position is primarily based in our Whitianga clinic, with the flexibility to travel to support our team members in Paeroa, Thames, and Coromandel.
In this role, you will demonstrate creativity, reliability, and exceptional organizational skills while adapting to changes in our environment. You will conduct comprehensive assessments of alcohol and other drug use, develop collaborative recovery plans, and implement a range of therapeutic models tailored to the needs of tangata whaiora. A passion for group work and the provision of relapse prevention and counseling skills is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, prioritize, and manage a caseload, including all associated documentation.
- Demonstrate skills in comprehensive mental health assessment, risk management, and intervention formulation.
- Maintain a high level of organization and self-motivation, working both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Communicate clearly with the wider multi-disciplinary team and community partners.
- Utilize a tangata whaiora and whanau-centered approach, advocating for best practices.
- Promote a culture of openness and continuous quality improvement, placing tangata whaiora and whanau at the forefront of our efforts.
- Encourage and lead innovation and improvement within our framework of work.

At Waikato, our Mental Health and Addictions Services provide a comprehensive range of specialty services across the district. We are dedicated to making a meaningful difference for tangata whaiora and their whanau by fostering partnerships that promote kotahitanga. Our approach emphasizes recovery and cultural sensitivity, integrating the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi into our practices.

About You
- Competency in te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or a commitment to learning and growing in these areas.
- Experience in upholding the principles of Te Tiriti and applying Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly in healthcare settings.
- A passion for making a positive impact on the lives of tangata whaiora and their whanau.
- A registered member of Dapaanz with a current practicing certificate.
- Experience working within the alcohol and other drug sector.
- Ability to engage and empathize positively with families and whanau.
- A full, clean driver's license.
- Legal authorization to work in New Zealand.
