About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated Midwife Clinical Coach to join our team in a part-time, permanent role (0.7 FTE) with rostered shifts. If you are an experienced and passionate midwife with a commitment to nurturing the next generation of clinical practitioners, this role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact. As a Midwife Clinical Coach, you will provide expert clinical education and guidance to midwives at various stages of their careers, fostering professional development, enhancing clinical skills, and ensuring culturally safe, evidence-informed practice in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Purpose of the Position
In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting new graduate midwives (Midwifery First Year of Practice - MFYP), midwives returning to practice, and those needing to refresh their clinical skills. Your expertise will help guide them through their clinical transitions, ensuring they develop into confident and competent practitioners. Furthermore, you will promote a learning environment that enhances staff retention and reduces stress through structured coaching, education, and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and group coaching to midwives to enhance their clinical skills and confidence in practice.
- Role model clinical excellence and culturally safe practice while supporting midwives in achieving their individual learning goals.
- Assist with the orientation and clinical support of new staff and midwives entering the maternity service.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of the midwifery new graduate programme, ensuring it provides high-quality support for new midwives.
- Collaborate closely with tertiary institutions to build strong relationships with students and facilitate a smooth transition from education to practice.
- Identify Māori and Pacific midwives who may benefit from additional cultural support and connect them with relevant resources.
- Advocate for and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the maternity service.
- Encourage midwives to develop critical thinking skills, enabling them to provide the best possible care for women and their whānau.
Requirements
- New Zealand Registered Midwife with Current APC
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience post-registration
- At least 2 years of inpatient clinical experience
