About the Role
We are currently seeking a Pukenga/Pukenga Matua - Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science on a permanent, full-time basis. We invite applications from candidates who hold a PhD in Environmental Science or a related field and have a passion for inspiring students through effective teaching.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in areas such as environmental monitoring, GIS, modeling, remote sensing, sustainable land management, restoration, or human-environment relations. However, we welcome applications from environmental scientists with diverse research, professional, and teaching strengths.
The successful applicant will become a vital part of our academic community, enhancing existing research strengths while introducing new perspectives to our teaching programs.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Delivering and coordinating high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Science, utilizing innovative teaching methods and mentoring students.
- Establishing and developing a robust research program, securing external funding, supervising postgraduate students, and disseminating research findings.
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to honoring Te Herenga Waka's obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and fostering relationships with iwi and community.
- Contributing to the strategic goals of Te Kura Tatai Aro Whenua - The School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, including enhancing the student experience and supporting the recruitment and retention of underrepresented student groups.
- Providing service and leadership within our School, Faculty, University, and the broader profession.
About You
We are looking for candidates who possess a strong motivation for Environmental Science or a related discipline and a commitment to high-quality research and teaching.
Key requirements for this position include:
- A PhD in Environmental Science or a related field.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to inspire students through teaching.
- A strong record of published academic research or impactful professional practice.
- The ability to secure research funding and manage research projects effectively.
- Capacity to build connections with various stakeholders, including communities, iwi, government, and professional practices.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and a collaborative spirit to work closely with academic, technical, and administrative staff to achieve the School's goals.
For appointment at the Pukenga Matua - Senior Lecturer level, candidates will need to demonstrate experience in teaching, research, and engagement commensurate with the role.
