Description
Forklift Operator
About the Company
At Port Otago Group, we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive services as a regional container terminal, engaging in bulk port activities, and participating in cruise and property investment and development. Our operations extend across South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, where we collaborate with customers to enhance their supply chains. We foster a hands-on culture that prioritizes safety and encourages continuous improvement.
About the Role
We are currently looking for qualified and experienced Forklift Operators to join our Supply Chain division on a permanent full-time basis in our Port Otago Warehouses. We have two specific opportunities available:
1. Forklift Operator - Cold Stores:
This position will primarily be based at our Dunedin Cold Stores located on Fryatt Street. The hours are mainly Monday to Friday, amounting to 40 hours per week, with occasional weekend and shift work as required by shipping and distribution schedules. During busy periods when fishing vessels are present, you may be expected to work 12-hour shifts. While prior experience operating a forklift in a cold store environment is beneficial, we are willing to provide training for the right candidate. You may also be required to work at any of our four warehouses located in Port Chalmers, Sawyers Bay, Mosgiel, or Dunedin (Cold Stores), handling a variety of products including fish, dairy, and timber as needed.
2. Forklift Operator - Dairy:
This role also operates primarily Monday to Friday, with a 40-hour workweek and similar expectations for weekend and shift work based on shipping and distribution demands. You will be required to assist at any of our four warehouses in Port Chalmers, Mosgiel, or Dunedin (Cold Stores), managing various products such as fish, dairy, and timber when staffing levels are low or demand increases.
Requirements
We are looking for an ideal candidate who possesses the following qualifications:
- A high standard of health and safety practices
- A current full driver's license with F (Forklift) endorsement and a valid OSH Forklift Certificate
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to speak up
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence
- A team player who thrives in a dynamic environment
Benefits
At Port Otago, we offer a competitive benefits package that includes:
- Contribution towards relocation costs of up to $5,000 to Dunedin
- Health insurance coverage for you, your partner, and dependent children, valued at approximately $6,600 per annum
- Superannuation contributions matched up to 7%
- Access to a range of employee benefits, including discounts at local businesses and fresh fruit at work
- Provision of full personal protective equipment (PPE), including boots
Heads Up
Please note that candidates must successfully pass Ministry of Justice and ACC checks, as well as a medical assessment that includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process. Additionally, random drug and alcohol testing is conducted weekly at Port Otago. We are committed to building a diverse team and encourage both men and women to apply.
