About the Role
We are excited to offer several opportunities for House Officers looking to experience the Southern lifestyle while contributing to the future of healthcare in Dunedin. We place a strong emphasis on teaching and training, which is why our Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) benefit from a protected session each week. Additionally, we encourage participation in various educational activities, including House Officer Education sessions, journal clubs, X-ray meetings, and rounds across different services.
We have a variety of clinical runs available for House Officers, including but not limited to:
- Medical Oncology
- ENT
- Gastroenterology
- Ophthalmology/Neurology
- Haematology
- Neurosurgery
- Respiratory
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Cardiology
- Orthopaedics
- Renal
- General Surgery (including Urology and Vascular)
- General Medicine
- Psychiatry
- Older People's Health
- Emergency Department
These runs are available each quarter, and we also offer six-month rotations in specialties such as Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics. If you have a preference for specific specialties, please indicate this in your cover letter. If we do not receive your preferences, we will assume you are applying for a general role. Please note that six-month runs typically occur from January to July and July to January.

About You
We are seeking candidates who are Resident Medical Officers with a minimum of one year of postgraduate medical experience. You should be eligible for, or currently hold, registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. It is essential that you have the legal right to work in New Zealand and meet the requirements for general or provisional general registration. To check your eligibility for registration, please visit the Medical Council of New Zealand's website.
Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is mandatory for your qualifications to be approved through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (EPIC). If you are committed to working in New Zealand, we highly recommend that you initiate this process as soon as possible to facilitate timely registration. More information regarding EPIC Credentialing can be found on the MCNZ website.

Salary Range
The salary for this role falls within the parameters set by the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Collective Agreement, effective from 18 June 2024 to 31 July 2026. It is also covered by the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand and Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand RMO Collective Agreement from 14 February 2024 to 28 February 2026.
