About the Role We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Nga Rau Rakau. In this full-time position, you will work alongside a team of psychiatrists to deliver clinical care to our patients. Your responsibilities will include both direct patient care and supervising junior medical staff. Your expertise will be crucial in various clinical tasks, such as conducting 24-hour seclusion reviews, performing periodic treatment assessments, carrying out statutory evaluations under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992, and making decisions regarding leave and discharge. As part of our Mental Health Service, you will participate in a robust Peer Review Group and have access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities to ensure you meet ongoing registration requirements. About the Team/Service/Location Nga Rau Rakau serves as the acute admission facility for individuals facing serious mental health challenges in the Hawke's Bay region. Our team is composed of professionals from diverse backgrounds, all dedicated to supporting individuals living with severe mental illnesses and their families. Hawke's Bay is known for its excellent work-life balance, with beautiful beaches, outdoor adventures, and a vibrant community. About You We are seeking candidates who are vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or possess an equivalent qualification that qualifies for registration. You should be capable of providing clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
