About the Role
We are excited to offer a permanent part-time position for a Senior Medical Officer in Addiction Medicine / Addiction Psychiatry within the Mental Health and Addictions Service at Hawke's Bay Hospital. This role involves working 48 hours per fortnight (0.6 FTE) and presents a wonderful opportunity to advance your career while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of a beautiful region.
Mental health services in Hawke's Bay are organized around two major community teams, complemented by a Kaupapa Māori mental health service provided by a non-governmental organization and satellite teams in smaller population centers. Our services include Child and Family support, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou, Consultation-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health, Older Persons, and Addiction services.
In this position, you will cover Te Ara Manapou, which focuses on Addictions and Maternal Mental Health. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes social workers, nurses, peer support specialists, and psychologists. The Mental Health Service prides itself on a robust Peer Review Group, and you will have access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities to meet your ongoing registration needs.
About the Team/Service/Location
Te Ara Manapou encompasses both Maternal Mental Health and Addiction teams. Our addiction team provides support to pregnant mothers and their whānau who have a baby under the age of three and are facing challenges with moderate to severe addiction, particularly those who may not be engaging with existing services.
The Maternal Mental Health team supports women experiencing moderate to severe mental distress during pregnancy and up to twelve months postnatally. Our primary aim is to enhance the wellbeing of whānau dealing with addiction or mental distress by offering support in a non-judgmental manner and walking alongside them throughout their journey.

About You
To be successful in this role, you must be vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or possess an equivalent qualification that qualifies you for vocational registration with MCNZ. We seek someone who can provide clinical leadership to our multidisciplinary team and is committed to continuous quality improvement.
