About the Role
We are looking for an experienced team leader or an ambitious individual ready to advance their career. In this role, you will lead a dedicated crew responsible for delivering pest plant control and revegetation projects that significantly impact the Nelson/Tasman region. This position is primarily field-based and involves physically demanding work, requiring resilience, strong leadership skills, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and motivate a field-based team to achieve high-quality restoration outcomes.
- Coordinate daily operations while ensuring safety and efficiency in challenging terrains.
- Oversee pest plant control, planting, and aftercare on retired forestry and land restoration projects.
- Train and support staff in the safe operation of equipment, including scrub bars, chainsaws, and knapsack sprayers.
- Foster teamwork, maintain effective communication, and promote productivity within the team.
Requirements
To excel in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience in motivating and leading teams in a similar outdoor setting.
- The ability to inspire, organize, and guide others through challenging, hands-on work.
- A practical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to teamwork.
- Familiarity with chainsaws, scrub bars, and herbicide application, along with knowledge of plant identification, including pest and native species.
- Relevant qualifications, such as chainsaw certification, Growsafe, and first aid, are advantageous but not required. We are willing to assist the right applicant in obtaining these qualifications.
