About the Role We are seeking a new team member to join us in a role that primarily focuses on Mauao and its surrounding areas. Mauao is a significant landmark, rich in cultural and spiritual importance to our local communities. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with and care for this sacred mountain and its landscape. Key responsibilities of this role include: - Implementing pest plant control measures across the landscapes using various methods, including hand removal and mechanical tools. - Collaborating with team members and local communities to promote conservation efforts and raise cultural awareness. - Maintaining a safe, accessible, and enjoyable natural asset for the public. - Planting and nurturing native vegetation to restore natural habitats and preserve the cultural heritage of Mauao. - Planning and executing site work according to established timelines, specifications, and safe working practices. - Building and maintaining relationships with local Tangata Whenua and providing assistance as needed. Requirements To be successful in this role, you will need: - An understanding of Te Ao Māori and an appreciation for cultural heritage site protocols. - Respect for the Maunga and recognition of its role in our community. - A strong interest in environmental conservation and sustainability. - The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. - High physical fitness and the capability to perform manual labor. - Excellent communication skills, along with experience using mobile devices and applications. - Previous experience in horticulture or environmental conservation is essential. - Qualifications or training in the use of agrichemicals, small hand tools, and mechanical tools would be advantageous.
