About the Role
We are seeking a new team member to join us in a role primarily focused on Mauao and its surrounding areas. Mauao is a significant landmark with deep cultural and spiritual importance to our local communities. This position offers a unique opportunity to connect with and care for this sacred mountain and its environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing pest plant control strategies in the landscape using various methods, including hand removal and mechanical processes.
- Collaborating with team members and local communities to promote conservation efforts and enhance cultural awareness.
- Maintaining a safe and enjoyable natural environment for public access.
- Planting and caring for native vegetation to restore natural habitats and preserve the cultural heritage of Mauao.
- Planning and executing site works in accordance with established timelines, specifications, and safe working practices.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with local Tangata Whenua and providing assistance as needed.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- An understanding of Te Ao Māori and an appreciation of cultural heritage site protocols.
- A strong respect for Mauao and its significance to the community.
- A keen interest in environmental conservation and sustainability.
- The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- High physical fitness and the capability to perform manual labor.
- Excellent communication skills, including proficiency with mobile devices and applications.
- Previous experience in horticulture or environmental conservation is essential.
- Qualifications or training in agrichemical use, as well as operating small hand tools and mechanical tools, would be advantageous.
