About the Company
We are a dedicated team in Aotearoa, New Zealand, committed to serving our ethnically diverse community, which includes Māori, Pacific, and Asian populations in both urban and rural settings such as the North Shore, Rodney District, and West Auckland. Our Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) is at the forefront of providing essential community and inpatient services for individuals facing serious mental health issues.
About the Role
The MHSOA offers comprehensive assessment, treatment, and support for the following groups:
- Individuals aged 65 or older with severe mental disorders
- People of any age experiencing primary dementia accompanied by significant behavioral and/or psychological symptoms
- Those with existing severe mental health disorders who may benefit from our services due to medical co-morbidities or frailty
Our Kingsley Mortimer Unit (Ward 12) is a 19-bed inpatient facility located at the North Shore Hospital, dedicated to the assessment and treatment of older adults with mental health challenges within the Waitemata District.
We operate two community teams: one serving the North Shore, covering both the Rodney District and urban North Shore areas, and another in West Auckland. Our Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Team (STaR) works collaboratively across the district to provide intensive support.
As part of our team, you may also engage in teaching and supervising psychiatry trainees, house officers, and medical students. We are an accredited training service, welcoming rotating pre-examination and advanced trainees in psychiatry of old age.
Our consultant psychiatrists play a vital role in providing clinical leadership to our multidisciplinary team. The MHSOA operates under a clinical governance model, ensuring that clinicians are actively involved in service development, planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
About You
To be considered for this position, you should be vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate or be eligible to apply. A full and clean driving license is required, as is a commitment to improving services and achieving positive outcomes, particularly for the Māori community.
