About the Role We are seeking a West Coast Roving Rural Nurse Specialist to join our team, covering the area from Karamea to Haast. This is a permanent part-time position, requiring 32 hours of work per week. As a Roving Rural Nurse Specialist, you will provide holistic, culturally appropriate, and comprehensive care to a defined population, including both residents and visitors in rural West Coast communities. This advanced nursing role encompasses general practice, district nursing, population health, emergency (PRIME) care, and palliative services. In this role, you will work autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team in rural clinics. You will also provide after-hours care on a rostered on-call basis, ensuring that the care offered prioritizes the needs of Māori as tangata whenua and supports improved equity in health outcomes. Additionally, you will respond to community health needs through home visits, well-child checks, and support for local schools, while acting as a clinical leader, mentor, and role model within the team. Key Responsibilities Your key responsibilities will include: - Delivering advanced primary and community nursing care using evidence-based practices. - Coordinating care across providers and settings to ensure timely, patient-centered services. - Undertaking health promotion activities, immunizations, and Tamariki Ora well-child services. - Leading or contributing to professional development, orientation, and clinical quality initiatives. - Providing culturally safe care in partnership with Māori health teams and iwi. - Responding to PRIME emergencies, including triage and stabilization. Requirements To be considered for this role, you will need: Essential: - A New Zealand Registered Nurse qualification with a current Annual Practising Certificate. - A minimum of 5 years of experience, including in Emergency, Primary, and/or Community settings. - Completed PRIME training or a willingness to complete it. - Independent Vaccinator certification or a willingness to obtain it. - Endorsement or progression toward RN Prescribing. - A full, clean driver’s license. Desirable: - A current PDRP portfolio. - Experience with Indici. - Experience in community consultation and rural project delivery. - Knowledge of relevant New Zealand health legislation, frameworks, and strategies (e.g., He Korowai Oranga, NZ Health Strategy 2023).
