About the Role We are seeking a dedicated Rural Nurse Specialist (RNS) to deliver holistic, culturally appropriate, and cost-effective nurse-led Primary Health Care Services to both residents and visitors in the West Coast area. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high-quality, equitable healthcare across various settings, including rural clinics, schools, and community environments. As an RNS, you will be instrumental in delivering advanced nursing care, leading healthcare initiatives, and facilitating the integration of sustainable health services. Your work will honor cultural diversity and address health disparities in our communities. Key Responsibilities Culturally Competent Care You will prioritize the healthcare needs of Māori as tangata whenua to achieve equitable health outcomes. Collaborating with local iwi and Māori health teams, you will develop strategies aimed at improving health results within the community. Leadership and Collaboration As a role model for professional behavior, you will support team development and partner with community stakeholders, educators, and interprofessional teams to address unmet health needs, particularly in schools. Advanced Clinical Care You will conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnostic inquiries, and develop care plans while providing emergency care in accordance with P.R.I.M.E. protocols. Additionally, you will manage chronic, rehabilitative, and palliative care services within the community. Health Promotion Engaging in health education, you will work with children and families through Well Child/Tamariki Ora checks, school health clinics, and immunization programs. You will also participate in community-driven health promotion initiatives aligned with the Ottawa Charter and Treaty of Waitangi. About the Team/Service/Location Each Rural Nurse Specialist clinic provides unique health services tailored to the community's needs. You will spend time in various locations, including Karamea, Ngakawau, Reefton, Moana, Hari Hari, Whataroa, Franz, Fox, and Haast. Although the distance from Karamea to Haast is 510 km, your responsibilities will vary based on your location. As an RNS, you will be the first point of contact for many residents and tourists. Your role will involve delivering clinic-based services, primarily focusing on primary care and district nursing, along with on-call services as per the roster. Your assessment skills and experience will be vital in providing primary and emergency care, supported by a wider team, standing orders, and PRIME training. About You Qualifications and Experience Essential: - You must be a New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate. - A minimum of five years of experience in Accident and Emergency, Community, or Primary Care settings is required. - PRIME training certification or a willingness to complete it is essential. - Independent Vaccinator certification or a commitment to obtain it. - A full New Zealand driver’s license is necessary. - You should possess a Postgraduate Diploma or be working towards one. - A proven commitment to cultural safety and health equity is crucial. Desirable: - Experience in research, community consultation, and evaluation of service-related projects would be beneficial. - Endorsement for RN prescribing or progress towards it is preferred. - Familiarity with MedTech32 or Indici systems is advantageous. - A current professional portfolio aligned with the PDRP and/or Takarangi Cultural Competency Framework is desirable.
