About the Role We are seeking a part-time Farm Assistant to support our livestock, teaching, and research operations across two farms. This role offers a hands-on, varied, and rewarding experience. You will work across Lincoln University's irrigated Research Farm and the dryland Ashley Dene property, assisting with general farm duties, animal care, and supporting teaching and research programs. You will collaborate with the Farm Manager, researchers, and students in a dynamic environment. Key responsibilities include: - Assisting with feeding, stock movement, and lambing activities - Supporting teaching and research livestock handling and logistics - Carrying out fencing, irrigation, and general farm maintenance - Accurately recording animal health and operational data - Safely operating farm machinery and vehicles - Applying fertilizer and assisting with weed control, pasture, and crop establishment This is a permanent role requiring 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE), Monday to Friday, split between our Springston-based farm and the Johnstone Memorial Laboratory at Lincoln University campus. The salary is $60,000 per annum, depending on experience, pro-rated to part-time hours (approximately $36,000 per annum total). Requirements We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and skills: - Experience working on a sheep and beef farm, including machinery operation - A strong motivation to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges - Excellent communication and teamwork skills - The ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records - A commitment to animal welfare and high standards of care - Willingness to step in as second-in-charge in the Farm Manager's absence and flexibility to work additional hours during peak periods (September to March) - Alignment with the values of Manaakitaka and Lincoln University Benefits At Lincoln University, we offer a supportive and inclusive workplace that values diversity and equal opportunity.
