About the Role We are currently seeking local talent for our esteemed client, New Zealand's leading provider of food and support services across various industries. We are looking for a Chef to join the team at a college in Otane, where you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals for hostel students. In this role, you will ensure that all food is prepared, cooked, and served to high-quality standards in accordance with the unit's contractual requirements. Health and Safety, as well as Food Safety regulations, are paramount in this position. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude and be capable of engaging with students in a lively environment, as humor plays an important role in building rapport with them. This position is temporary and part-time, requiring weekend availability only. The hours are Saturday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The role is expected to last until the end of the year, with an immediate start. Pay rates will be determined based on experience and travel distance. Responsibilities In this role, you will report to the Unit Operations Manager and be responsible for the following: - Preparing, cooking, and presenting food while ensuring quality control and consumer satisfaction. - Ordering, receiving, and storing kitchen supplies while maintaining proper inventory levels. - Upholding cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen, including equipment and surfaces. - Developing menus that cater to the special dietary and cultural needs of customers. - Coaching and supporting colleagues to foster a collaborative team environment. You should be confident in working independently, as there may be times when you are the sole staff member on duty. Requirements The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes: - An NZQA Level 4 Certificate in Cookery or an equivalent qualification. - Previous experience in a similar cooking environment. - The ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor. - Strong communication skills and a collaborative team player mindset. - Physical fitness, reliability, and the ability to pass a police clearance. - Capability to pass a drug and alcohol screening. - Applicants must have New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa.
