We are a dedicated team operating at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, one of the most unique and remote environments on Earth. Our mission is to maintain and support the station’s infrastructure, enabling scientific research and exploration in this extraordinary setting.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a motivated and adventurous Door Technician to join our maintenance team at McMurdo Station. This is an exceptional opportunity to experience the beauty of Antarctica while working on the maintenance and repair of advanced door systems.
As a Door Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining various types of door systems, including roller doors, insulated metal swing doors, service doors, and other commercial and industrial door systems. You will be part of a close-knit team, contributing to the smooth operation of the station's facilities.
Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1,000 residents in the summer season)
Compensation: $45 per hour for wages, $55 per hour for contracting
We have two intakes available, and you can choose one or stay for both:
Intake 1: October 2025 - February 2026
Intake 2: February 2026 - October 2026
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have experience working with various door systems, as outlined above.
Before starting, candidates will need to complete medical and dental checks, criminal background and security checks, and obtain necessary vaccinations.
Please note that we require successful candidates to have open work rights in New Zealand, as we are unable to provide sponsorship or visa variations.
We are considering candidates from the following regions: Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatū-Whanganui, Wellington, Tasman, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland.
