About the Role
We are looking for an energetic, efficient, and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our inpatient Allied Health Team at Kenepuru Community Hospital, specifically in the area of rehabilitation for older adults. This is a fixed-term role to cover parental leave. The team is part of the broader Allied Health Inpatient team and is dedicated to supporting older patients who have been admitted with various injuries and medical conditions. The Occupational Therapist in this position may also provide support in the orthopaedic and neuro-rehabilitation wards as needed.
In this role, you will emphasize timely and high-quality Occupational Therapy input, as well as inter-professional collaboration when delivering care. Your ability to assess, contribute to decision-making, and participate in complex discharge planning as part of a team is essential. Depending on your level of experience, you may also offer mentorship to rotational Occupational Therapists, students, and delegate tasks to Allied Health Assistants. We welcome new graduates to apply as well.
About the Team/Service/Location
Our inpatient rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team at Kenepuru Community Hospital is a close-knit group of allied health professionals, nursing staff, and medical colleagues. We are passionate about learning and upskilling, and we actively encourage service improvements that enhance patient care. Additionally, we offer free parking on-site as a perk for our team members.
The wider Kenepuru Inpatient Allied Health team includes over 35 staff members from various disciplines, including Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Speech Language Therapy, Psychology, Diversional Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, and Allied Health Assistants. We work collaboratively to provide high-standard services to patients and their families. Our supportive environment encourages training, learning opportunities, supervision, and mentorship, and we celebrate our achievements together.
Recent service improvements include the introduction of Inter-Professional Practice models, an Amputee pathway, a Stroke pathway, and closer collaboration with our early supported discharge team, known as AWHI. We are also focused on enhancing our cultural responsiveness as a team and service, and we invite individuals who are dedicated to improving health equity outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples to join us on this journey.
About You
Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist with a current APC
- Experience in a hospital inpatient setting
- Understanding of the health needs of Māori and Pacific communities
- A commitment to reducing inequities and improving health outcomes
- Current full driver's licence
- Enable accreditation (or willingness to obtain it)
