About the Company
Tradestaff Global is excited to announce an opportunity for licensed and experienced Excavator Operators to work at McMurdo Station in Antarctica during the Summer of 2025/26. This unique position offers an adventurous experience in one of the most isolated yet stunning locations in the world.
About the Role
We are looking for dedicated team players who are ready to embrace the challenges of working in a high-risk environment. Your primary responsibility will involve operating 30–50 ton excavators on a large commercial construction project. In addition to operating machinery, you will also be expected to assist with general site work, demonstrating a willingness to contribute beyond just operating the equipment. Experience with dozers, loaders, or rollers will be beneficial.
Deployments are planned from approximately October 2025 to March 2026. This role is not for the faint-hearted, as it requires a commitment to staying in Antarctica for several months.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must hold a WTR (Wheeled, Track and Rollers) endorsement and a Class 2 License. Proven experience operating large excavators in civil, roading, or construction settings is essential. An up-to-date CV is required, detailing the sizes and brands of machinery you have operated and examples of relevant projects.
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US citizens with New Zealand or US passports, currently and permanently residing in New Zealand, are eligible to apply.
Additional requirements include:
- Willingness to receive Flu, Tdap, and MMR vaccinations.
- Ability to commit to long hours, working six days a week.
- Completion of medical and dental checks, security clearance, and passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- A clean criminal record.
- Preparedness to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams, with costs covered for those traveling from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
In return for your hard work, we offer competitive compensation at a rate of $73.64 per hour, with payment on a contract basis, paid fortnightly in New Zealand dollars for a total of 54 hours per week. We provide flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. All personal protective equipment (PPE) will also be supplied.
This position presents a unique opportunity to gain invaluable experience, save money while working in a breathtaking location, and forge lasting friendships.
