    Description

About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare to all New Zealanders, grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are committed to building a health system that emphasizes partnership, equity, sustainability, and whanau-centered care through integration and collaboration. About the Role We are looking for a General Adult Psychiatrist to join our passionate team at Health New Zealand Lakes, serving Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a community setting, who shares our commitment to putting people first and integrating Te Ao Maori into everyday practice. The position offers a flexible operating model, primarily based within our Adult community teams in Rotorua, with potential in-reach to our Taupo satellite office. This role is available on either a full-time or part-time basis, working Monday to Friday with on-call responsibilities. About You The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of general psychiatric skills, particularly in Community Adult Mental Health. You should either hold or be eligible for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Your experience should include a willingness to teach, as Rotorua serves as a teaching hospital for 4th, 5th, and 6th-year medical students, along with registrars training for fellowship with the RANZCP. We are looking for someone who is competent in te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or is committed to beginning their journey in this area and taking ownership of their learning and growth. Who We Are Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Lakes operates from two modern and progressive general hospitals in Rotorua and Taupo. The Lakes district is known for its outdoor recreational activities, family-friendly beaches, and a growing multicultural community, making it a desirable lifestyle destination. We are expanding our team with multiple roles available in both inpatient and community-based settings. These positions support our innovative model of care, Te Ara Tauwhirotanga, which has been co-designed with over 400 members of the Lakes community. Our approach focuses on empowering individuals through recovery and healing. What We Offer We provide a competitive salary along with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance for successful long-term and permanent appointments. Additional benefits include free staff parking, a supportive and inclusive work environment, free flu vaccinations, discounts with local businesses, and access to an Employee Assistance Program. Salary Range The salary range for this position is between $185,380 and $267,980, pro-rated to hours worked, in addition to Senior Medical Officer allowances. Working for Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Our Equity Work Programme emphasizes the importance of equity in all aspects of our operations, promoting the cultural changes necessary to achieve equitable health outcomes. We value our people and are dedicated to being good employers while honoring our equal employment opportunity obligations. Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion We encourage all applicants to bring their authentic selves to their applications. Skills can be developed in various areas of life, not solely through formal employment. If you can demonstrate the skills listed in the job description, even if gained through community involvement or volunteer work, we welcome you to apply and share your story in your cover letter. We particularly encourage applications from diverse Maori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities. Questions? If you have any questions regarding the role, please reach out to our Mental Health Addiction Service Manager, Esthe Davis, or contact our Medical Staff Recruiter, Sarah Gray.
