About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technician to join our Newborn Hearing Screening team at Waikato Hospital. This casual position involves providing vital hearing screenings for newborns. While no prior experience is necessary, an understanding of how to care for and handle newborns would be advantageous. We will provide comprehensive training, and you will have the support to obtain the NZQA New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Newborn Hearing Screening within your first year.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hearing screenings for newborns
- Communicate effectively with mothers and their families
- Collaborate with other health and maternity staff
- Input data into our computer systems
- Contact families to arrange hearing screening appointments
This position is based at Waikato Hospital and requires working weekends on a roster basis, typically one or two weekend days per month.
About the Team/Service
Our Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program is designed to provide essential hearing screenings for newborns. Our dedicated team operates seven days a week, offering services to newborns in the Waikato hospital maternity service, Hamilton birth centers, and community clinics throughout the Waikato region. About You
To be considered for this role, you should possess the following skills and experience:
- A current full New Zealand driver's license
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team
- Computer literacy, including data entry skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
Ideally, you will also have:
- Completed or be working towards the NZQA New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Newborn Hearing Screening
- Experience in handling or caring for newborns
- Experience in the health or education sector
- Administrative experience
