About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated professional to manage the museum's collections, including Taonga Māori. This role will involve the care and preservation of these important artifacts, as well as managing the associated records and documentation. You will curate the object collections and assist visitors in accessing the museum's resources to meet their needs related to arts, culture, knowledge, and heritage. Additionally, you will conduct research for exhibitions and events, ensuring that our offerings are enriching and educational.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a tertiary qualification in museum studies or a related field, along with at least five years of experience in managing collections within a museum setting. Strong communication skills and the capability to manage multiple tasks effectively are essential. You should have exceptional customer service and relationship management abilities, along with demonstrated experience working with mana whenua and iwi. Adaptability, a strong work ethic, and experience in a smaller museum environment are also preferred. A comprehensive understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi, mātauranga Māori, and tikanga is crucial, and fluency in Te Reo is desirable.
