Description
About the Company
Port Marlborough is a values-driven port and marina business dedicated to serving the communities of Picton, Havelock, and the breathtaking Marlborough Sounds. We pride ourselves on our commitment to providing exceptional service and maintaining the beauty of our surroundings. Due to an internal transfer, we are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a practical, versatile, and proactive individual to join our team.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a Rubbish Collection/General Hand for a permanent position reporting to our Caretaker Lead. This role features variable hours that adapt to the seasonal demands of the port, with part-time hours in winter and full-time hours in summer.
From March to November, you will work 45 hours over a fortnight, averaging 4.5 hours per day from Tuesday to Saturday. From December to February, this increases to 90 hours over a fortnight, with a daily commitment of 9 hours for the same schedule.
In this role, you will be integral to keeping our ports and marinas clean and inviting. Your responsibilities will span various locations, including Picton Marina, Waikawa Marina, Waitohi Wharf, and Oyster Bay (once a week). In addition to rubbish collection, you will assist with general maintenance, plant operations, lines handling, and support our tradespeople in the workshop. Each day will bring new challenges and opportunities, ensuring that no two days are the same.
About You
We are looking for a hands-on individual who is adaptable and maintains a positive attitude at all times. Given the nature of the role, you will encounter many people, including port users, locals, and visitors, so a friendly and approachable demeanor is essential. You should be comfortable taking the initiative and adapting to changing circumstances throughout the day.
A Heavy Traffic Licence is required for this position, along with high energy levels, strong communication skills, and a solid commitment to safety in the workplace.
