About the Role
We are excited to offer an outstanding opportunity to lead the prevocational medical training programme at Waitemata District. This pivotal role focuses on overseeing prevocational training and trainees, from recruitment to apprenticeship learning and the formal educational programme, and reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The Waitemata District Clinical Training (DCT) role has established strong connections regionally, nationally, and externally with the University of Auckland and the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Training, supervision, welfare, and advocacy of prevocational doctors
- Ensuring compliance with MCNZ prevocational training requirements
- Providing educational supervision for House Officers
- Contributing to regional and national training initiatives and committees
- Collaborating strategically with Te Whatu Ora Northern Workforce on recruitment, allocation, and support
- Leading and supporting the Prevocational Educational Supervisor team
- Heading the Medical Education and Training Unit team
- Promoting quality training at Waitemata District
- Liaising with medical schools and MCNZ on behalf of Waitemata District

- Full vocational registration and good standing with the MCNZ
- A commitment to championing the values of Waitemata District in daily work
- Significant experience in clinical medicine and medical education
- A collaborative and quality-focused leadership approach
- Strategic leadership and advocacy skills for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs)
- A professional demeanor that serves as a role model for resident doctors
