About the Role
We are seeking a qualified mechanical engineer who is looking for a dynamic and varied work environment. This position goes beyond the traditional workshop role; we are looking for someone who is eager to engage in a variety of operational tasks. These tasks include gear maintenance, welding, safety checks, coordinating equipment logistics, and supporting port operations.
Location: Timaru Port
Status: Monday to Friday, 9-hour shifts with callout availability and weekends as needed
Your job duties will include:
- Maintaining, repairing, and preparing gearstore equipment for shipping operations.
- Performing safety checks and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Managing inventory, coordinating equipment delivery and recovery, and keeping the gearstore organized and functional.
- Liaising with suppliers, operational teams, and maintenance staff to meet equipment needs.
- Keeping accurate records of maintenance, timesheets, and equipment requests.
You will also need:
- A Level 3 Trade Certificate (minimum).
- Mechanical engineering experience.
- Welding experience.
- Physical fitness and comfort working both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A willingness to take on varied tasks and pursue additional training.
- A full driver’s license and reliable transport.
