About the Company Peko Contracting is a well-established, privately-owned agricultural spraying business located in the rural township of Waverley, South Taranaki. With over 30 years of operation, we have built a strong reputation within the South Taranaki farming community. Our primary service area extends from Whanganui to Hawera, and we maintain spray units in both regions. Our team consists of four full-time staff members, some of whom have been with us for more than eight years, and we also hire part-time employees during peak periods. Our fleet includes five fully converted Toyota Landcruisers and an Isuzu truck. About the Role We are currently seeking an Agricultural Spraying Contractor to join our team. The main responsibilities of this position include spraying land for cropping and treating crops for pests. Our primary clients are dairy and drystock farmers, and your key duties will involve managing chemical applications, maintaining machinery, using GPS with tabular mapping, and nurturing client relationships. The spraying season typically demands over 40 hours of work per week, depending on weather conditions. The busiest times of the year are late July to the end of August, September through Christmas for cropping, and March when crops are being harvested. During the off-season, we focus on mechanical repairs and maintenance, as well as rebuilding spray wagons. Requirements We are looking for an organized and dedicated agricultural spraying contractor who embodies a strong work ethic. Key qualifications for this role include: - Flexibility and willingness to learn; training can be provided - Ability to self-manage and work independently - Accuracy in reporting and record-keeping - A valid full Class 1 driver’s license - Strong attention to detail - Mechanical aptitude is advantageous - Good communication skills - Diligence in pesticide application - A chemical handler license is beneficial but not mandatory - Agricultural background and experience working with farmers and machinery Benefits This role presents an opportunity for increased responsibility and growth within our company.
