About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Lead to oversee the maintenance of rotating equipment for our clients in the Wellington region. This is a hands-on leadership position that is well-suited for individuals with a trade background who enjoy working in the field, addressing challenges, and ensuring that vital infrastructure operates at optimal levels.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Overhauling pumps and other rotating equipment
- Installing and aligning pumps, motors, gear drives, and other rotating machinery
- Supporting the installation and commissioning of various mechanical equipment
- Diagnosing faults and performing root cause analysis
- Conducting preventative and breakdown maintenance
- Collaborating with client operations teams to ensure equipment reliability and safety
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records
- Mentoring junior mechanical staff and contractors
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A mechanical trade qualification (e.g., Fitter Turner, Maintenance Engineer, or equivalent)
- At least 10 years of practical experience with rotating equipment, preferably in the water or industrial sectors
- Strong skills in alignment, vibration checks, and mechanical diagnostics
- A proactive approach with the ability to lead a small team or work independently
- Solid communication and organizational skills
- A strong commitment to health, safety, and quality
It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Experience in other mechanical trades (e.g., fabrication, fitting, machining, or hydraulics)
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plant equipment
- Familiarity with MS Office and MS Teams
