About the Role
We are seeking a Design Estimator to join our team in New Plymouth. In this pivotal role, you will engage in design, pricing, planning, and tendering processes to meet our customers' needs and contribute to our business success. Working closely with the Design Estimation Manager and the rest of the team, you will help ensure the seamless execution of our projects, allowing your contributions to make a meaningful impact every day.
Key Responsibilities
As a Design Estimator, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing overhead and underground networks in accordance with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with Northpower, customer, and regulatory standards.
- Achieving customer satisfaction while generating compliance reports.
- Providing pricing for network and customer-initiated works.
- Planning the delivery of primary works.
- Preparing and negotiating tender and contract documentation.
- Effectively handing over projects to Project Managers.
- Accurately documenting project information.
- Producing CAD construction and as-built drawings to meet customer standards.
- Offering CAD drafting services and updating network drawings.
- Capturing GPS data for design and as-built purposes.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, we are looking for a qualified Design Estimator with a strong background in the Electrical Distribution Network sector. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in design, estimation, and project planning.
Specific qualifications and skills include:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or an Electrical Diploma.
- A clean Class 1 driver's license.
- At least five years of experience in electrical distribution or transmission design.
- Knowledge of zone substation switchgear, network HV/LV infrastructure, overhead and underground services, network reinforcements, and electricity supply distribution for new subdivisions.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- A solid commitment to HSQE standards, a proactive safety culture, and Safety by Design principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in a multicultural environment.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Integrity, consistency, and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
- The ability to motivate, influence, and maintain a strong customer focus.
