About the Role
We are seeking a permanent part-time Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OG) Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team at Nelson Hospital. This role offers a 0.7 Full-Time Equivalent (56 hours per fortnight) schedule, including an on-call allowance with a 1:6 after-hours commitment.
As an OG Specialist, you will provide both medical and surgical care related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the female reproductive system. You will address a diverse range of health concerns, from routine antenatal care to complex gynaecological conditions. In addition to patient care, you will play a vital role in teaching and developing our junior medical team.

About the Team/Service/Location
The OG service at Nelson Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality care for women throughout their life stages, including pregnancy, childbirth, and gynaecological health. Our obstetric services encompass antenatal care and labor and delivery, with a strong focus on promoting safe and positive birth experiences.
In terms of gynaecological care, we offer a comprehensive range of services, including management of menstrual disorders, menopause, pelvic pain, and gynaecological surgeries. Our experienced team of specialists, midwives, and nursing staff is committed to delivering patient-centered care, ensuring the best possible outcomes through evidence-based practices and compassionate support.
The OG team collaborates closely with primary care providers, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless and coordinated care. We are dedicated to supporting women and their families with expert guidance, advanced medical treatments, and a commitment to excellence in women's health.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Possesses OG expertise and competencies to enhance the advanced treatment and medical care of female patients in the region.
- Has experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery and pelvic floor surgery.
- Holds or is eligible for C-QuiP certification for colposcopy.
- Holds FRANZCOG or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Is eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate and vocational scope of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
While experience in complex abortion care, including second-trimester surgical abortion procedures, is beneficial, we also encourage candidates who are willing to be proctored into this scope to apply.
