Location: Wellington Regional Hospital and Hutt Hospital Contract: Permanent, Full Time About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. We are focused on building a health system based on integration and collaboration, emphasizing partnership, equity, sustainability, and whanau-centered care. Our goal is to achieve excellence in all that we do. About the Role We are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to join our team as an Antimicrobial Pharmacist. This permanent, full-time position will be an integral part of our clinical pharmacy services across the Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley District. You will play a key role within the Infectious Diseases Service and will be essential in promoting the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) program, particularly focusing on Hutt Hospital. As a member of the AMS Committee, you will work to enhance the quality use of antimicrobials throughout the district. In this role, you will serve as a role model for other pharmacists, providing support, advice, and education to both the pharmacy department and other healthcare professionals. Additionally, you will be responsible for regular reporting on antimicrobial usage within the hospital and will support the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) program to ensure patients are discharged safely with appropriate antimicrobial therapy. There will be numerous opportunities for you to develop projects and work autonomously, all while receiving support from specialist clinicians. You will collaborate closely with the existing Antimicrobial Pharmacist at Capital Coast Hospitals on various projects, reporting, and other initiatives. About the Team/Service/Location Our pharmacy team is highly regarded by clinicians, nursing staff, and senior management across the organization. We are consistently looking for ways to enhance the services and care we provide. Our comprehensive pharmacy service throughout the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley District includes clinical services, dispensary logistics, and quality risk management. We also operate an aseptic production service at Capital Coast Hospitals (Wellington Kenepuru). Through our services, we aim to improve the quality and effectiveness of prescribing, supplying, and distributing medicines. Our teams value professional growth and emphasize clinical development and medication optimization for our patients. About You We welcome applications from experienced hospital pharmacists who are ready to take the next step in their careers. While previous experience in Antimicrobials or Infectious Diseases is desirable, the Pharmacy team and the Infectious Diseases Service are committed to providing training and support for the right candidate. You should be self-motivated, possess broad clinical experience, and demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and innovatively. Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to build good working relationships with the multidisciplinary team are essential. You must be a registered pharmacist in New Zealand with a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) or be eligible for registration. Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand. A diverse and inclusive workforce enables us to better understand and serve our community. We are a pro-equity health organization, with a special focus on Māori, Pacific peoples, and the disability community.
