About the Company
Tradestaff Global is a dynamic organization dedicated to providing skilled labor solutions across various industries. We pride ourselves on connecting talented professionals with unique job opportunities, including exciting roles in challenging environments.
About the Role
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and licensed electricians with commercial experience to join us at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the Summer 2025/26 season. Deployments are expected to take place from approximately October 2025 through March 2026.
This role is not for the faint-hearted; you will be living and working in one of the most remote yet stunning locations in the world for several months. If you have ever dreamed of such an adventure, this could be the opportunity for you.
Requirements
As an electrician on this project, you will engage in commercial electrical work, primarily up to medium voltage. We are looking for hard-working team players who are willing to pitch in on various tasks. Your responsibilities will include reading electrical schematics, pulling wires, and possibly working with metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, and fire alarms.
To be considered for this role, you must hold a current NZ Electrical Practising Licence. Additionally, experience with the following systems will be beneficial:
- UPS battery systems and/or backup generator systems
- Telecoms
- Security system installation
- Switchgear and transformer wiring
- Fire alarms
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US citizens with New Zealand or US passports who are currently and permanently residing and working in New Zealand are eligible to apply.
Candidates must also be willing to receive vaccinations for Flu, Tdap, and MMR. The position requires long hours, with six days of work each week. Start dates are approximate and contingent upon passing medical and dental checks, obtaining security clearance, and compliance with notice periods and ice flight availability.
Additional requirements include passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, holding a Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence, and having a clean criminal record. The application process can be lengthy, so patience is essential. Candidates may need to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams; we will cover the costs of testing and flights for those traveling from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
In return for your hard work, we offer several benefits:
- Flights provided from any major New Zealand airport
- Food and shared accommodation
- Travel insurance
- Competitive pay at $66.11 per hour, on a contract basis, paid fortnightly in NZD for 54 hours a week
- All personal protective equipment (PPE) supplied
This is an excellent opportunity to earn a competitive wage while saving money, gaining invaluable experience, and creating lasting friendships.
