About the Role We are looking for a second Consultant Psychiatrist to join our community old age psychiatry service. You will work alongside a full-time registrar, providing support primarily in patients' homes, although outpatient consultations are also available. In this role, you will collaborate closely with geriatricians and other members of the older person’s health services. Our team does not have inpatient beds; therefore, patients requiring hospitalization will be admitted to either the Adult Mental Health ward or the Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation ward, based on their individual needs. Your focus will primarily be on treating individuals with dementia and associated psychiatric or behavioral issues, as well as those with late-onset mental illnesses (over the age of 65). Additionally, our team also manages patients under 65 with dementia and some older adults with long-term mental health conditions. As part of our Mental Health Service, you will have the opportunity to participate in a robust Peer Review Group and engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities to fulfill your ongoing registration requirements. About the Team/Service/Location The Older Persons (Pakeke) Mental Health Service is dedicated to supporting older adults facing serious mental health challenges, helping them achieve their best possible functioning and wellness. Our objective is to enable individuals to live as independently and meaningfully as possible within their chosen environments. Our multidisciplinary team consists of professionals from diverse backgrounds, all skilled in supporting older individuals, their families, and communities. Team members include nurses, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, kaitakawaenga, occupational therapists, registered nurses, and community support workers. About You We are seeking a candidate who is vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or holds an equivalent qualification that allows for vocational registration with MCNZ. You should be capable of providing clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
