About the Company
Tradestaff Global is a leading provider of workforce solutions in the construction industry. We are currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and experienced Structural Steel Welders to join a significant new-build commercial construction project at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most remote locations on Earth. Deployment for this project is scheduled for September/October 2025.
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for assembling and welding large steel framing as part of a dynamic construction team. Your hands-on experience in erecting large steel structures will be essential to your success. As a team player, you will also be expected to support other trades and assist with general laboring duties as necessary.
Requirements
To succeed in this position, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Vaccinations: You must be willing to receive the Flu, Tdap, and MMR vaccines.
- Qualifications: You should be a trade-qualified structural steel welder with a current 9606 ticket. If your ticket has expired, we may assist with re-certification; please indicate the status of your 9606 ticket in your application.
- Experience: A strong background in large structural steel erection is essential.
- Documentation: Proof of qualifications (current or expired) will be required during the interview process.
- Resume: You should provide a detailed, up-to-date CV outlining your skills, experience, and project history.
- Technical Skills: Comfort with detailed paperwork and computer systems is necessary.
- Patience: The application and mobilization process is thorough and can take several months to complete.

Expected Hours
The expected hours for this role are 54 hours per week, working 6 days out of 7. These hours will remain consistent, even if weather conditions impact operations.
Approximate Dates
Deployment is scheduled for September/October 2025 for approximately 4 weeks. You will be away for the entire duration. Exact dates will depend on medical clearances, notice periods, and flight availability.

The onboarding process for this role is extensive due to the unique nature of working in Antarctica. You will need to be available for phone and video interviews and may be required to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams (flights provided if needed). Comprehensive medical and dental exams are required, with costs covered by us. Background and criminal record checks will also be conducted.
Eligibility Criteria

- You must be a New Zealand or US citizen with a New Zealand or US passport, currently and permanently residing and working in New Zealand.
- A clean criminal record is required.
- A full Class 1 Driver’s Licence is necessary.
