About the Role
We are looking for a permanent, full-time Senior Log Truck Driver Class 5. In this role, you will provide day-to-day leadership to less experienced log truck drivers and assist in mentoring and training junior drivers in various aspects of safe heavy vehicle operation. This includes log loading and restraint, forestry road protocols, and fatigue management.
As a Senior Log Truck Driver, you will also step in to manage and resolve emergency situations, such as vehicle breakdowns, accidents, road closures, or adverse weather events. You will be responsible for providing informal performance feedback to team members and escalating any training or compliance issues to management as needed.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Taking responsibility for your vehicle and notifying the company of any required service or maintenance.
- Assisting with the safe loading and unloading of items from vehicles to prevent damage.
- Adhering to assigned routes and following time schedules.
- Complying with all transportation laws while maintaining a safe driving record.
- Reviewing job sheets before and after delivery to ensure orders are complete.
- Informing management of any obstructions that may impact safe and timely deliveries.
- Keeping your vehicle clean and tidy.
- Preparing reports and other documents related to deliveries.
- Notifying the company of any accidents or damage to the vehicle immediately and completing the necessary paperwork within 24 hours.
- Maintaining a current driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle you drive.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following:
- A Heavy Vehicle License (NZ Class 5 or an overseas equivalent).
- Physical fitness, as the job is physically demanding.
- The ability to drive a 9 axle truck and trailer unit and navigate through challenging terrain.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- A willingness to provide training to trainee drivers.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
