About the Role
We are seeking experienced Sous Chefs to join our team at one of our education sites in Christchurch. In this role, you will support the Head Chef in preparing, cooking, and serving high-quality meals. You will also lead kitchen operations when necessary and ensure that all food production meets our standards and compliance expectations. Your leadership will play a crucial role in delivering consistent, high-quality food service to our residents and guests.
Your Responsibilities
In this position, you will support the Head Chef and supervise kitchen operations in their absence. Your main tasks will include preparing, cooking, portioning, and presenting high-quality meals while maintaining consistency and quality control. You will oversee stock management, including ordering, receiving, storing, rotating, and minimizing waste.
Ensuring kitchen hygiene and food safety compliance will also be part of your responsibilities. You will coach and support team members, contribute to menu planning and event catering, and maintain strong communication within the team.
About You
We are looking for candidates with an NZQA Level 4 Cookery qualification (or equivalent) and experience supervising staff in a similar environment. You should be a confident and positive kitchen leader with strong communication skills and a collaborative approach. Reliability, a strong work ethic, physical fitness, and a commitment to high standards of hygiene and presentation are essential.
You must be able to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and efficiency. We value motivation, flexibility, and a desire to continue developing skills and supporting team success.
