About the Company Calder Stewart is a leading nationwide provider of property and building solutions for New Zealand's industrial and commercial markets. With a dedicated team of approximately 420 professionals, we deliver significant projects for local, national, and international clients each year. Founded in Milton in 1955, we have successfully expanded our services over the past 70 years into a national offering. Our capabilities encompass an extensive land portfolio, end-to-end property services, design-build solutions, as well as manufacturing and construction services. As we continue to grow, effective communication with our entire team has become essential to ensure we share our story with both our people and our customers. Our team possesses generations of proven experience, and we are committed to delivering flexible solutions guided by our core values of 'Find a Way,' 'Play Fair,' 'Be Loyal,' and 'Own It.' About the Role We are seeking an experienced Commercial/Industrial Construction Project Manager to join our team and contribute to our design and build projects in the Otago and Southland regions. This position offers the opportunity to oversee projects from the initial design phase through to completion. The role can be based in either Otago or Southland. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Construction Manager, Operations Managers, and onsite construction teams to ensure successful project delivery in the Otago and Southland area. As a Construction Project Manager at Calder Stewart, you will benefit from working alongside our integrated property, design, and manufacturing teams to efficiently execute high-quality commercial and industrial design-build projects. Our innovative design-build process has created a robust pipeline of future work across New Zealand. Requirements To excel in this role, you should possess excellent communication skills, natural leadership abilities, and a thorough understanding of New Zealand's commercial construction methods. Proficiency in MS Project and strong programming skills are essential. We value team players who remain calm under pressure, are solutions-focused, and refrain from assigning blame. Additionally, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and experience: - A trade or tertiary qualification in construction management or quantity surveying is advantageous. - A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a mix of medium to large design and build commercial construction projects. - While the role is primarily office-based, occasional out-of-town travel may be required to meet project needs. - Site-based physical construction experience, such as having worked on the tools and progressed through the ranks, is highly desirable. - Ability to interpret detailed construction plans and specifications. - Sound knowledge of NZS3910, 3915, and 3916 construction contracts. - High proficiency in Microsoft Office, including MS Project. - Experience with Procore project management systems. - Extensive experience in project administration, including document control, RFIs, and CIs. - Familiarity with project quality management and the development of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Project Handover Plans. - Advanced experience in using Microsoft Project to develop, monitor, and update detailed critical path construction programs. - Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Culture and Benefits In return for your expertise, we offer the chance to join a reputable, long-standing company with a supportive work environment. You will work alongside great people and be presented with long-term career opportunities.
