About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Waikato Hospital, the largest hospital campus in Australasia. In this role, you will be essential in delivering high-quality cardiac care. Your key responsibilities will include performing and reporting transthoracic echocardiograms, assisting with transoesophageal studies, and participating in various echo-guided procedures.
You will support both inpatient and outpatient services, including urgent assessments in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and operating theatres. Our service also extends to satellite echocardiography clinics in the surrounding communities, providing you with a diverse and rewarding scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities of the Role
- Conduct a full range of echocardiographic examinations and complete technical reports.
- Generate preliminary reports using the Cardiology/Echo system.
- Identify, demonstrate, and report on cardiac pathologies.
- Participate in transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) and transoesophageal echocardiogram (TOE) lists, as well as mobile and bedside examinations when required.
- Assist with complex procedures in the operating theatre and cardiac catheter lab, such as percutaneous valve replacement, PFO, ASD/VSD closure devices, and balloon valvuloplasties.
- Participate in the on-call after-hours service.
- Perform echo services at one of our satellite hospitals.

Our Cardiac Ultrasound Service at Waikato Hospital provides a comprehensive range of both invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures to our local community. With advanced technology, our department performs over 9,000 scans annually, including state-of-the-art 4D echocardiography.

About Hamilton
Waikato Hospital is located in Hamilton, New Zealand, and serves as a major regional and tertiary teaching hospital. As the regional hub for the Midland area, we provide comprehensive hospital services, including radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy support. With around 722 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres, we offer a vibrant learning environment in collaboration with the University of Auckland, University of Waikato, and Wintec.

About You
To be considered for this role, you should be registered as a sonographer with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board (MRTB) and possess a current practicing certificate. Alternatively, you may have an appropriate qualification in cardiac sonography that is acceptable for registration with the New Zealand MRTB. You must also be eligible to work in New Zealand.
