At Tauranga City Council, we are dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in our community. Our Facilities Team plays a crucial role in ensuring that our city operates smoothly. We are currently seeking three experienced Handypeople to join our team and contribute to our mission.
About the Role
As a Handyperson, you will engage in a variety of hands-on maintenance and repair tasks across a wide range of council-owned and managed buildings and community assets. This includes marine assets, jetties, boat ramps, libraries, public toilets, Mt Holiday Park, Historic Village, sports club rooms, and car parks. Each day will present different challenges, with tasks ranging from carpentry and painting to water blasting, GIB fixing, kitchen installations, landscaping, and more.
Flexibility and a strong focus on safety are essential as you adapt to changing schedules while minimizing disruption to tenants and users. Our team values initiative, reliability, and a commitment to high standards in every aspect of our work.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a generalist maintenance or handyperson role
- A trade background or relevant qualification in building or carpentry (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and proven problem-solving skills
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively
- Confidence with basic digital tools, including iPads, mobile phones, and apps
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- A full, clean New Zealand driver’s license
Benefits
This position offers the following key details:
- Working hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week)
- On-call duty is required one week in four, with allowances provided
- A work vehicle, tools, and equipment will be supplied (the vehicle is not for personal use)
- The role is based at our Owens Place Depot
