About the Role
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Quantity Surveyor to join our team. This role goes beyond traditional quantity surveying; you will be involved in the entire project lifecycle, participating in strategy development, commercial decision-making, and execution from inception to completion.
Your responsibilities will encompass two main areas: Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, as well as Project Management and Delivery.
In Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, you will:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and comprehensive cost plans for all project phases.
- Oversee tenders, procurement schedules, and negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Manage contract administration, including progress claims, variation assessments, and final accounts.
- Monitor and report on project costs, ensuring financial integrity and compliance with the budget.
- Lead value engineering exercises and assist in preparing feasibility studies for prospective developments.
In Project Management and Delivery, you will:
- Collaborate in project planning and scheduling to ensure alignment with scope, timeline, and budget.
- Liaise with consultants, engineers, contractors, and key stakeholders to maintain effective project coordination.
- Maintain project risk registers and contribute to proactive mitigation planning.
- Attend site meetings, providing commercial insights and promoting operational efficiency.
- Oversee project documentation, program tracking, and milestone reporting.
- Support senior leadership with governance and performance reporting.
- Lead smaller projects independently while contributing to the delivery of large-scale builds.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 5 years of quantity surveying experience in New Zealand, with exposure to project management.
- A proven track record in land development, including subdivisions and civil infrastructure, as well as vertical construction in both residential and commercial sectors.
- Familiarity with New Zealand building codes, planning regulations, and contract administration under NZS3910 and other contract formats.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, coupled with a proactive, solutions-driven mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to effectively manage diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership with NZIQS, RICS, or PMP certification (or progress toward such certification) is advantageous.
