About the Role We are currently seeking a Town Custodian & Gardener to join our dedicated team in Wanaka. This position is pivotal in maintaining the aesthetic appeal of our communities and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of our parks and reserves while ensuring the cleanliness of the town center. In this role, you will be responsible for: - Maintaining Wānaka garden areas in a clean and tidy condition, following approved horticultural practices. - Identifying and resolving issues or defects, either through personal effort or by collaborating with relevant contractors. - Managing the maintenance, renovation, and development of shrub, flower, and rose bed areas, which includes weeding, leaf removal, mulching, and weed and disease control. - Operating machinery and utilizing a variety of high-end equipment for maintenance tasks. Requirements We are looking for candidates who are comfortable with hands-on work and take pride in seeing the results of their efforts. A genuine long-term interest in gardening and outdoor work is essential, along with a passion for detail that aligns with a commitment to a career in this field. The ideal candidate will also possess strong interpersonal skills and enjoy engaging with the public to address concerns and provide information. This role requires flexibility, as you will be expected to work weekends, public holidays, and evenings on a rostered basis. Additionally, you will need to: - Hold a current clean and full driver’s license. - Maintain a good level of physical fitness, as the role involves heavy lifting and machinery operation. - Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks. - Enjoy working independently.
