About the Role
We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Manager to join our Tararua team. This role is essential within the Tararua Alliance, a collaborative partnership between Downer and the Tararua District Council. Based in Oringi, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of the district’s road network, contributing positively to the local community.
As the Maintenance Manager, you will be a key leader within the Tararua Alliance, overseeing the planning, execution, and ongoing improvement of all road maintenance activities in the region. You will work closely with the Delivery Manager and key Alliance stakeholders to meet contract expectations, service levels, and community outcomes.
In this position, you will lead a skilled team, manage resources effectively, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and oversee the utilization of plant and equipment. You will also be responsible for implementing strategic maintenance programs, developing staff capabilities, and fostering innovation in service delivery.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the planning and execution of road maintenance operations across the Tararua District.
- Building, leading, and mentoring a high-performing team that promotes collaboration and a “best for network” mindset.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with the Tararua District Council, Downer teams, consultants, subcontractors, and the wider community.
- Championing a culture of Zero Harm while ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Allocating resources to reactive and planned emergency work situations as needed.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in leading road maintenance or civil infrastructure projects.
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil), or other relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Strong leadership capabilities, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams, contracts, and suppliers.
- A demonstrated ability to meet key performance indicators and service levels.
- Excellent understanding of plant and resource management, financial oversight, and reporting.
- Experience with project and/or contract management in civil engineering or transport infrastructure.
