About the Company
Dojko’s Kilim Café Napier is situated in the vibrant heart of Napier, where we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional dining experience featuring Balkan-style Turkish cuisine. Our café operates six days a week, with plans to expand to seven days as our kitchen team grows. We also remain open on holidays, excluding Christmas and Easter, and we are looking for a dedicated cook to join our talented team.
About the Role
As a cook at Dojko’s Kilim Café, you will play a vital role in our kitchen operations. We are seeking someone who has at least one year of experience in a cooking role or holds a Level 2 or Level 3 cooking qualification. Experience in Mediterranean or Balkan cuisine would be an advantage, as your responsibilities will include marinating and grilling meats as well as other essential kitchen tasks.
We expect our team members to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and presentation. The ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced, and high-volume kitchen is crucial. We value punctuality, organization, and the capability to multitask while paying close attention to detail. Familiarity with health and safety regulations and maintaining quality control records is also required.
Candidates must be available to work during holidays, evenings, and weekends, as our shifts run from 9 am to 9 pm. We welcome applicants who hold New Zealand residency or possess a visa that permits work in the country. For the right candidate, we may consider supporting a visa application.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience as a cook or a Level 2 or Level 3 cooking qualification
- Experience in Mediterranean or Balkan cuisine is a plus
- High standard of personal hygiene and presentation
- Ability to work in a small, fast-paced, and high-volume environment
- Punctuality, organization, and multitasking skills with attention to detail
- Experience with health and safety regulations and record-keeping for quality control
- Availability to work on holidays, evenings, and weekends
- New Zealand residency or a work visa

- Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week
- Note that we operate in split shifts, so residing close to the restaurant is advisable for convenience
- Competitive pay rate of $25 to $27 per hour, depending on experience
