About the Role We are seeking a passionate and creative Registered Early Childhood Teacher to join our team as an Activity Room Coordinator at Christchurch Health Campus (Waipapa Hospital). In this part-time position (24 hours per week, 0.6 FTE), there is potential for increased hours in the coming months. As the Activity Room Coordinator, you will oversee and manage the licensed early childhood space, ensuring it is a warm and engaging environment for our young patients. Your key responsibilities will include: - Developing, implementing, and documenting a variety of fun and educational activities tailored to the needs and interests of children aged from infants to 16 years old. - Creating a safe, welcoming, and stimulating activity room that encourages exploration and creativity. - Ensuring that the experiences provided support learning outcomes for children, aligned with core curriculum areas. - Designing captivating wall displays and provocations that inspire curiosity and engagement, fostering a vibrant atmosphere that enhances the children's experience. - Working closely with parents to offer guidance and strategies that support their child’s development and emotional well-being during their hospital stay, promoting healing and strengthening family bonds. - Coordinating weekly visits from therapy dogs, facilitating interactions that bring comfort, joy, and emotional support to our young patients. - Collaborating with Play Specialists to provide therapeutic play experiences that address the emotional and developmental needs of children. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact, establish innovative programs, and continuously enhance the quality of activities offered. About You We are looking for candidates who have experience in hospital play, but we also encourage qualified early childhood teachers with a Level 7 qualification to apply if they believe they possess the necessary skills. Key skills and attributes include: - A qualified Early Childhood Teacher with teacher registration. - Strong organizational and communication skills. - A creative mindset and a genuine passion for working with children. - Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth. - Warm and sensitive interpersonal skills to effectively relate to children and families. - The ability to build rapport quickly with tamariki and whanau.
