About the Role
Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua | MidCentral is currently inviting applications for an experienced and motivated Cardiologist to join our dynamic and expanding multidisciplinary Cardiology Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing development of both community-based and hospital-based secondary care cardiology services.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in pacing procedures, as this area is a growing focus within our service.

About the Team/Service
Our established heart failure service is actively working to implement national standards for cardiac care. We are currently undergoing significant development, which includes expanding dedicated facilities for diagnostic angiography, PCI, and pacemaker implantation.
Our department is well-equipped with the following facilities:
- Exercise ECGs
- Ambulatory monitoring
- Echocardiography (including TOE)
- Diagnostic cardiac angiography and PCI
- CT coronary angiography
- Cardiac MRI
- SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging
- Permanent pacemaker insertion and follow-up
MidCentral serves a population of approximately 180,000, providing a comprehensive range of cardiology services that include diagnostic angiography, pacing, echocardiography, CTCA, CMRI, and an integrated heart failure and inpatient service. Our facility, Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua - MidCentral, is a 350-bed secondary hospital located in Palmerston North, at the heart of the Manawatu region. In addition to serving a local population, we extend our regional services to a broader population of 550,000 across Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
About You
We seek candidates who possess:
- Proven clinical experience in cardiology
- A strong understanding of departmental development and clinical governance
- Experience in establishing or expanding interventional services
- A commitment to working in a rural and regional healthcare setting
