About the Role
We are seeking a Nurse Educator for a permanent, part-time position (0.4 FTE/32 hours per fortnight) at Dunedin Hospital. Education is a core component of this role, and to effectively influence and enhance nursing practice, it is vital that the position is supported by all the competencies detailed in the position description.
In this role, you will:
- Support both new and existing staff within the Gastroenterology department by providing education, training, and resources that ensure practices are current, evidence-based, and appropriate.
- Collaborate with nursing colleagues, medical staff, and other educators within the wider Professional Development Unit (PDU) team.
- Offer practice and professional development opportunities aimed at improving service delivery, quality and safety, and enhancing patient outcomes.
- Utilize critical incidents as opportunities for staff development.
- Act as a resource person to assist staff in meeting the requirements of the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP).
- Mentor nurses and preceptors when necessary.
- Network nationally and internationally to stay informed on trends and developments within education.
About Our Gastroenterology Team
Our Gastroenterology team is composed of:
- Consultants
- Specialist Nurses for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Hepatology
- National Bowel Screening Programme Coordinators
Our team is dedicated to enhancing skills in gastroenterology and technical proficiency for flexible endoscopic procedures, providing a diagnostic outpatient service, and managing our after-hours acute service. We also focus on expanding knowledge in areas such as population bowel screening, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver disease.
About You
We are looking for candidates with:
- Proven experience in leading or teaching others
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) and New Zealand working rights
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- The ability to build successful working relationships

Salary Range
The salary for this role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired NZNO Collective Employment Agreement (CEA) and will be in accordance with the District Health Board Nursing (DSN) Pay Scale, Grade 1, ranging from $114,025 to $121,444 per annum, depending on relevant experience.
