About the Role We are currently inviting expressions of interest for the position of Corrections Officer at Tongariro Prison. While we are presently at our resourcing capacity for most sites, we encourage you to submit your application for consideration for upcoming opportunities. As a Corrections Officer, you will work in a dynamic environment alongside a team of experienced professionals. You will engage with individuals in a positive manner, playing a vital role in influencing change not only in their lives but also in their families' lives. Your responsibilities will include supervising daily routines within the unit, escorting individuals to educational programs and appointments, and monitoring behavior and safety to help minimize conflict. About You Our team comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, all contributing to the unique fabric of our work. We are looking for candidates who possess the following skills and attributes: - A positive mindset - The ability to engage with families, iwi, and hapu - A motivation to make a positive impact in the community - An inspiration to change someone's life - Flexibility to work rostered shifts across a 24/7 schedule, including weekends and public holidays - Experience in a Kaupapa Maori or Pasifika environment is desirable but not essential - Relevant experience in a people-focused role, such as security, police, military, or healthcare, where you have facilitated positive outcomes for others In addition to these skills, we require candidates to meet the following criteria: - A current and full New Zealand driver’s license or a Restricted License with the ability to obtain a full license within three months - The legal right to work in New Zealand or a Work Visa with at least 24 months remaining - Completion of pre-employment checks, including a drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, physical fitness assessment, and reference checks We provide comprehensive paid training. You will begin your journey on the Corrections Officer Development Pathway (CODP), which includes an initial week of onsite induction, five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Wellington, followed by six weeks back at your site. Your development will continue beyond graduation. Benefits The starting salary for this position is $70,019, with increases available as you achieve National Qualifications Level 3 ($74,697) and Level 4 ($80,213). Additional benefits include a night rate (time and a quarter) and an annual shift allowance of $4,000.
